Transfer Student Issues PDF Print E-mail

The majority of OSU's transfer students come from other Oklahoma institutions, both two- and four-year. Advanced planning simplifies the transfer process and assures a satisfactory number of credits transfer to OSU. The primary concern of transfer students relates to "losing" credits in the transfer. Courses transferring from accredited institutions generally transfer for credit at OSU. The real issues are 1) do they transfer as OSU equivalent courses or general education requirements? and 2) do they apply to the degree being pursued? Students intending to transfer to OSU may contact the major adviser in the department of interest or the Office of Student Academic Services well in advance of the anticipated transfer to discuss courses that will meet degree-requirements. Transfer guides for most Oklahoma schools allow advisers to provide unofficial evaluations of transfer work, minimizing the risk of taking courses that do not apply when you transfer.

Transcript Evaluation: Following admission to the University (see University Admissions), your official transcripts will be evaluated.

Enrollment and Scheduling: Following admission, transfer students will be assigned an academic adviser for discussion of academic goals and course selection to meet these goals.

Transfer Days:  Transfer Days are scheduled in the fall and spring semesters, and periodically throughout the summer. All new transfer students will need to register to attend a Transfer Day through the Office of New Student Orientation (http://newstudents.okstate.edu). During Transfer Day Orientation you will learn about financial aid, scholarships, information technology, housing, career services, and more. You'll also meet with your academic advisor to review your transfer work and enroll for classes.

Other Information: The following information may be helpful to you as you consider transferring to OSU. If you have any other questions, please contact University Transfer Admissions at (405) 744-6861 or the College of Arts and Sciences Student Academic Services at (405)744-5658.

  • Articulation - Some transfer students have been told that an associate's degree from another institution will allow them to skip any general education course work required for four year degrees. This is true as long as you have an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree from an Oklahoma school and the four year degree you are pursuing does not require any prerequisite or University mandated courses you have not had. In some cases, you may need to incorporate these courses into your OSU course work.
  • OSU Credit Hour Requirements - You may transfer to OSU at any time in your course of study. However, OSU degrees require 60 credit hours from four year institutions, and that at least 30 hours toward your degree are taken in residence at OSU.

If you would like to know more information regarding transfer issues, contact the office of High School and College Relations, 405-744-5358) or Arts and Sciences Student Academic Services, 405-744-5658).
