From the time you arrived at OSU, you have been working toward. . .

    G R A D U A T I O N ! ! !

BUT, before you receive your diploma, a few details need to be addressed.

The College of Arts and Sciences Graduation Certification Office uses the following checklist to determine whether you have completed all graduation requirements. Double check your progress regarding each of the following to insure your graduation will not be delayed. If you have questions, please contact the Graduation Certification Office in 202 Life Sciences East, (405)744-5658.

College of Arts and Sciences Graduation Checklist

  • Diploma Application - The diploma application is filed with the Registrar during enrollment for your last semester or within the first week of the last semester. You must file an application to receive a diploma.
  • Degree Plan - Before you enroll for your final semester, check with your advisor to ascertain that your degree plan has been forwarded to the Graduation Certification Office. This step must be completed before a Graduation Check can be done, which will alert you to any deficiencies on your transcript.
  • Changes in Degree Plan - You will not be allowed to receive a diploma until all requirements for a degree plan have been met. Any deviation from the plan must be approved by your advisor in writing to the Graduation Certification Office.
  • Correspondence - If you are enrolled in correspondence courses and plan to graduate in the current semester, you should complete the course work at least one month prior to the end of the regular semester to allow for grade postings.
  • Removal of Incomplete - Make sure that grade changes for removal of incomplete grades have been forwarded to the Registrar's Office in sufficient time to meet graduation deadlines.
  • Transfer Credit - Transfer credit must be received by the Office of Admissions in sufficient time to meet graduation deadlines.
  • Foreign Language Proficiency - BA students must successfully complete 10 hours of college credit in a single language, pass an advanced standing exam or complete a second-year or higher college-level course in the language. BFA, BM and BS students may satisfy this requirement by presenting a high school transcript that demonstrates successful completion of two years of study in a single foreign language.
  • Minimum Hours and Grade Point Average - The minimum number of semester credit hours required for graduation is 120. The minimum grade point average is 2.00 overall, in the major, and in the field of concentration. Some degree plans require more than 120 hours and/or a higher grade point average. A minimum of 48 upper-division hours are also required. Be aware of your degree requirements.
  • Pass-No Pass - Courses graded under this option may not be used to meet any requirement for graduation other than free elective.
  • Excessive Hours in One Subject - If you are completing a BA or BS degree and take more than 48 semester credit hours in one prefix (including lower- and upper-division courses), the additional semester credit hours over 48 will be added to the total semester credit hours required for your bachelor's degree.
  • Total Hours Earned - Do not rely on "total hours earned" appearing on grade reports, as these hours may include credit for courses repeated and credit in developmental courses and leisure activity courses which allow no credit toward graduation. Credit allowed for zero-ending courses is variable. Check the OSU Catalog description for maximum hours allowed.
  • Residence Requirements -The minimum residence requirement is 30 semester credit hours. Students transferring from a junior college must complete 60 credit hours at a four-year accredited institution. A minimum of one-half of the major requirements and one-half of the upper-division major requirements must be earned in residence at Oklahoma State University,

Remember that the responsibility for satisfying all degree requirements rests with the student. Advisors, faculty members and administrators assist the student in meeting this responsibility.
